ODE TO SILVERWARE CREATIONS
By Sarah Larimore 2001
It all started a few years ago.
With old tarnished silverware that had lost its glow.
How it all happened, I will never know.
But here is the story of fun and being at the craft show.
How could one know that with one little piece,
Could make such noise that you want to grit your teeth.
With a few forks, spoons, & knives you have a chime.
Do you think we should charge more than a dime?
The grinding, the buffing, the cleaning, oh my!
This is what we must do to make it to buy.
The pliers, the vice grips, the swivels, the fishing line,
I really hope it is worth all the time!
At craft fairs we stand and peddle our goods.
Even in circus tents, cranberries, Elvis, and while wearing hoods.
The days do grow long and the feet start to hurt.
But maybe B will see a cute boy and start to flirt?
It’s all in a day of a crafter’s hard life.
But even through all the trouble & strife
We have tons of fun eating smelly nuts.
And on a slow day we just sit on our butts!
It is really fun to be with the fam.
But hopefully we won’t have to see any more Spam!
ODE TO SILVERWARE CREATIONS II
By Sarah Larimore 2003
Years do go by and the business is growing.
We go in all weather, even when it is snowing.
We work hard all summer just to try to keep up.
I try to invent things and sometimes mess up.
Rachel makes chimes just a bit too uneven.
But they sell like hotcakes during the hot season.
Once in a blue moon B makes a fish chime.
We don’t ask her often because she likes to whine.
Janna bangs hard till the spoons are all flat.
Hopefully she won’t hit a finger and hear a big splat.
Dad does the hard work and keeps us in line.
I know we can be pains in the behind.
Special orders come in and the boxes do fly.
There’s so much to do – bubble wrap, peanuts, oh my!
It’s all to keep us in school for as long as we can.
If B doesn’t finish, she’ll just have to eat Spam.
It has been two years since I wrote the first one.
It sure has been oodles of fun.
